Last weekend a new project began at the Mascalzone Latino Sailing School in collaboration with the Fondazione Laureus and the Associazione Pio Monte della Misericordia.
It’s a completely new initiative aimed at kids who have already attended the Mascalzone Latino Sailing School and know how to sail, but for various reasons (distance, school problems) have not managed to attend all the courses, despite an enthusiasm they declared and that the instructors noted.
For this reason the Sailing School management has drawn up, with the two partners mentioned above, an educational and training programme for kids from 12 to 17 years old: it consists in eight outings on an offshore yacht one weekend a month, from February to June, plus a weekend in September to prepare for a possible entry in the Barcolana, the best attended national regatta of all time.
The idea is to keep the kids in touch with the Mascalzone Latino Sailing School so it can remain an important point of reference for them in a critical period such as adolescence, offering them new stimulus and motivation.
The six kids chosen for the project are: Armando, Giuseppe, Antonio, Andrea, Laura and Giulia. Unfortunately, these last two won’t be there for the first weekend but were replaced by Lorenzo, a veteran of the Sailing School and one of the Laser Radial racing team.
The project is followed by an instructor from outside the Sailing School but with great experience, Vincenzo Panella, who will accompany the kids in this technical and educational program teaching them to navigate along the Neapolitan coastline and giving them the chance to sleep at anchor among the islands of Ischia, Procida and Capri. It will be a unique experience of life and the chance to enjoy the beauties of their country, travelling far from their daily realities and learning how to live together in the limited spaces on board and with clear rules. Also accompanying the kids on this first weekend of adventure will be the director of the Sailing School, Antonietta De Falco.
