It is with great pleasure that the Mascalzone Latino Sailing School announces that for the fifth consecutive year two students and an instructor will believing for Boston (USA), a city which, thanks to the presence of clubs similarly dedicated to social ends, has been twinned to perfection with Vincenzo Onorato’s project, now almost in its seventh year of activity in its Naples base.
The kids involved in the PIB (Professionisti Italiani a Boston) Summer Event 2017 are Giuseppe Masecchia and Alessio Garau, 16 and 15 years old, who will be accompanied by instructor Salvatore Ercolano. They are two promising students, good sailors but with different school profiles and, with this occasion, are being rewarded for the commitment and seriousness they have shown at the Sailing School. It is again a chance being offered to them to get to know the “New World”, visiting one of the cities with a culture filled with University and sporting activities at the highest levels, prominent among them the MIT Sailing Pavilion (the University sailing club), the Courageous Sailing Center and the Community Boating Center. It’s an occasion from which you can return not only enriched in experience and knowledge, but also more motivated above all after visiting a thriving community of educated young people who are able to make their mark quickly thanks to the dynamic American society.
Let’s get to know the two students: Giuseppe lives in Afragola and has been attending the Mascalzone Latino Sailing School since 2013. Currently he is training to crew a 420; he has no interest in studying but he is willing and has a great desire to learn and do manual work. He is an agile kid with great physical ability: seeing him at work on a boat or on his skateboard leaves everybody speechless.
Alessio is his helmsman. A quiet kid, very intelligent but extremely lazy. He doesn’t like Latin but is very good at mathematics; he would spend hours playing video games.
Two adolescents with different characters who work well together on board, and for them the cultural exchange in Boston will be a great chance to get to know new realities, understand what is important for their future and perhaps reflect on what course to take in their studies.
In the busy programme planned for them this year, in addition to regattas in the main clubs of the city there will be visits to the science Museum, to the aquarium, to the main Boston University but also a trip out to Cape Cod and a day in class at an international English school, all accompanied by friends of PIB. Departure is on Sunday July and ninth, and they will return on Thursday, July 20. There will be three regattas during their stay, Tuesday, July 11 from 530 at the MIT Sailing center, Thursday, July 13 from 5:30 PM at the Courageous Sailing Center and Friday at 9 o’clock at the Community Boating, with the classic final prizegiving at the Italian consulate general in Boston.
Again in 2017 supporting the expedition of the Mascalzones to Boston are the local companies Danforth Dental, FLS International School – Saraceni Family and Logo Mix. Putting them up, as in previous years, are our friends Frank Facella, a dentist, and Giovanni Abbadessa, a medical research and co-founder of the PIB. Their hospitality is also guaranteed by other members of the PIB and by the Saraceni family who will handle organisation and accompany them to the various visits and activities.
